It is impossible to listen to Sings for Lovers without wanting to fall in love. Ray Charles takes cheesy lyrics like “you make me happy when skies are gray” and makes them not only believable, but genuine. His smooth, sensual voice combined with the melodic instrumentals leaves you swaying in your seat. The album is a beautiful reminder that in our cruel world, love is, in fact, here to stay.

The beauty of this album is in the tangibility of Ray Charles’ love. The chorus is, at times, overwhelmingly old fashioned, but Charles’ voice is timeless, making the music relatable on every level. His deep, powerful vocals are filled with heart and life. The emotions behind the words are easily felt, a quality that makes any music worth listening to.

Ray Charles has the ability to make even the most jaded person a little more open to the idea of love. His soulful music evokes human emotions that you may have forgotten you are capable of feeling. Not only is this album easy on the ears, it is easy on the heart.
