Jason Collett brought his Bonfire Ball through Calgary on April Fool’s Day – but this rock show was no joke. Okay, okay, that was a pretty lazy intro, but when Bahamas, Zeus and Collett bring it like they did on this night, it starts to get you wondering if in April, you’ve already seen the best Canadian tour of the year.
The show started rather unceremoniously, with Collett sauntering out on to the stage and ordering the smattering of people flirting with the dance floor to “get the fuck up here.” After running through ‘Fire’ and ‘Hangover Days,’ Collett passed the mic off to his tourmates – the three entities would share duties like this throughout the rest of the night.
Zeus is unquestionably the MVP of this tour – backing up Collett and Bahamas on their crowd-pleasers, and absolutely tasering the crowd during renditions of ‘You Gotta Teller,’ ‘How Does it Feel,’ and ‘Marching Through Your Head.’ And while Bahamas seem overmatched at first, he quickly won over the crowd with his guitar wizardry, and absolutely stole the show during an encore that won’t soon be forgotten. The Bonfire Ball is a tour not to be missed.
