With The Gaitway at SAIT set up as a seating only venue, it looked set to be a pretty chill night – even when Dan Mangan unassumingly slipped onto the stage, and started the opening notes of a slowed-down ‘Road Regrets.’ But it wasn’t long until the crowd rose to their feet and crowded the stage to meet the raspy-voiced folk-rocker. From the show’s powerful opening moments, he had the rapt attention of his audience, who were quiet enough during the songs to hear Mangan’s careful wordplay – until each song ended to roaring approval.
What explains Mangan’s relationship with his audiences better than anything is his encore that night. Stepping over tables and chairs and leading a singalong of ‘So Much for Everyone,’ Mangan put the final touch on a memorable night. For video of a great moment, click here.
