The UK never stops showing off its talent, and rightfully so. Hello, The xx. This London, England quartet’s debut album is a collection of tranquil, dark tunes you’ll find equally relaxing and invigorating.

Drawing influence from The Cure and The Pixies, and more recently from The Kills and especially Hooverphonic, The xx produce soft, soothing music that belies an underlying darkness. ‘Crystalised’ embodies almost the entire album in one song, giving voice to our modern day fear of commitment.

The xx is the type of band that would play anonymously from the speakers of a swanky, overpriced vintage clothing store, on any trendy street in any particular metropolis. Don’t hesitate to ask the clerk what’s playing over the speakers. The next part is when you scurry home to get your download on.

Are you in the honeymoon phase of your relationship? Are you pining over somebody? Have you found yourself sitting at the edge of your couch with your head in your hands thinking about the good times with that ex you should never have left? This is your album – and that’s not a bad thing.
