It can be hard to keep track of all the dissolutions and reunions of PUSA – they’ve broken up at least twice, punctuated by both sabbaticals and breaks, not to mention the lineup changes, both permanent and temporary. What’s stayed surprisingly static is their sound, a consistently peppy pop-rock goof off.
These Are The Good Times People is the Presidents’ sixth studio album, and nearly 15 years removed from their mid-90s novelty hits, it still feels like a revelation to realize that they can write pretty catchy songs. Though nothing here quite creeps out from under the shadow of ‘Peaches’ and ‘Lump,’ there are certainly songs that share the same camp value – lead single ‘Mixed Up S.O.B.’ and ‘More Bad Times’ to name just two.
Good Times is a surprisingly and endearingly confident album from a band still trying to live down their early success.
