“You can’t go wrong, if you play a little bit of that Creedence Song” says John Fogerty on his new record Revival’s standout track. And it is with this in mind that Fogerty’s newest effort takes its form. With a distinct CCR feel to each track, Revival is an instant draw for any fan of the classic rock staple.

Setting the pace of the album right out of the gate is first track ‘Don’t You Wish it Was True.’ The fun and upbeat rock number, which comes complete with a distinctive sixties love, peace and happiness message, sets the tone for the whole record. Keeping with this trend throughout the course of Revival, are the aforementioned ‘Creedence Song,’ ‘Summer of Love’ and ‘Natural Thing.’ Revival is also not without an attempt at a ballad, and while it doesn’t manage to live up to similar CCR mainstays, ‘Broken Down Cowboy’ makes a good showing.

Fogerty can easily be counted among the upper echelons of American rock’s all time greatest singer/songwriter/performers. For decades he has made inspired music that millions have enjoyed. Revival marks another important step in the evolution of the artist as he makes peace with his past. After years of heated battle with record labels and former band members, he once again proves that, even after all these years, he still has the ability to make the great, fun music that cemented his popularity in the first place.
