The debut album from Vancouver’s Yoko Casionos is a pleasurable listening experience to say the least. With help from producer Todd Simko (Pure), the band has crafted an album bursting with catchy pop hooks, solid guitar riffs, and pleasant boy/girl vocals. Songs such as ‘No Regrets,’ ‘The Circuit,’ ‘Camera’s on’ and especially the title track stress melody over intricacies, setting the tone for the entire record.

The Casionos gained fame last year at at the NXNE music festival in Toronto (the band won a 2005 Best Unsigned Artist prize) and already the group is being considered the next big thing to come out of Vancouver even catching the attention of Canadian power pop rocksters Sloan. The alt-legends invited the Yoko Casionos to open up for them on their latest Canadian trek this fall.

These Are The New Old Times is simple, straightforward and refreshing – the type of tunes you won’t mistake as Frank Zappa, Radiohead or a Missy Elliot/Timbaland production. And that’s fine since it’s always nice to hear good pop rock now and then.
