Get out the black makeup and tight jeans: My Chemical Romance is back. MCR has expanded on their power-ballad punk sound with their latest release, The Black Parade. Stepping it up for their sophomore release, MCR brings a more rounded sound to the table. There is an epic feel in the air as you join the parade, giving you a sense of journey through lost love and into death; how emo.
But seriously, you can sense that the band has matured since their last release, which is very important in the evolution of any band. Laced throughout the entire album is a very obvious, sometimes overly so, Queen influence, even borrowing a riff directly from Freddie Mercury and company on one track. In a genre full of forgettable, unoriginal, and just plain crappy bands, MCR stands a head above the rest, with their Tim Burton-esque brand of punk rock.
