Based on the album’s name, one can quite safely guess just what Justin Beckler’s Oh! My Troubled Mind is all about. Beckler relays his thoughts and feelings with little in the way of subtlety, as the albums lyrics read much like a first person narrative. In doing this he is able to create a degree of familiarity between himself and the listener, as you almost feel like you know him by the end of the album.
In addition to the albums well constructed lyrics, Troubled Mind’s music is expertly assembled and mirrors the lyrical content wonderfully. Accomplished through a well balanced combination of acoustic and electric rock, the music compliments the lyrics step for step as he spans the emotional array from calm and collected, to nearly frantic.
Oh! My Troubled Mind is appropriately produced by Beckler himself, ensuring that there are no outside influences on the content of the album. He also openly acknowledges that this is his finest work to date, a sentiment that would be difficult to discount given the quality and originality of the album. An example of indie-rock at it’s finest and in its truest form – one you can listen to over and over again.
