Brazilian Girls – Talk To La Bomb

The only thing sexier than being spoken to by a beautiful woman in broken English, is being spoken to in a language you don’t understand at all. We’re treated to both on Talk To La Bomb, the second full-length from Brazilian Girls.

On opener ‘Jique,’ singer Sabina Sciubba mumbles her way through what sounds like various different languages, and frankly, she could be reading her grocery list and it would still rock. La Bomb isn’t as overtly sexual as their first album, but the subtlety is welcome here. Where sexuality was all in the lyrics last time, this time it’s all in the music. On ‘Last Call,’ the bass rumbles as Sciubba shyly sings, “I just need your love.” The band maintains their irreverent sense of humour, though, on standout ‘Never Met a German,’ on which she sings about joining the army and having an orgasm as if the two things always belonged together.

Though their debut was good, Talk To La Bomb is officially the standard that people will be expecting from this band for years to come.
